Strong Representation But No Red Plate
Posted on 07 September 2009

Albury Wodonga Kart Club was well represented in the majority of the 15 classes in the 2009 Australasian Kart Titles hosted by the Goulburn Valley Kart Club on 5th~6th September.

Karters from across Australia came to Numurkah over the weekend to compete for the prestigious title and to carry the red color number plate.

Despite some very strong contenders for the title from the Albury Wodonga Kart Club they had to settle for runners up.

Multi-state title holder Jordan Boys was amongst a group of drivers who were “nose to tail” in front of the pack for the entire race in a hotly contested Rookie class. The lead changed numerous times as each driver made last ditch efforts to be in the lead at the end of the 20 lap final. Within a hundred  metres or so from the finish line Jordan squeezed his way into 2nd position prior to the chequered flag.

Chris Milthorpe from Rutherglen started from 3rd position in the finals of Formula Rotax 125 Over 35 after suffering a mechanical issue in the first heat. Milthorpe was unable to catch the leader who made an early breakaway and had to settle for 2nd position as they crossed the start/ finish line for the final time.

James Reynolds from Albury contested multiple classes coming home in 2nd place in Formula Rotax 125 Pro and 6th place in Clubman Heavy.

Peter Jackman finished 3rd having narrowly missed out being one step higher on the podium in the Clubman Over 40's final. Jackman started on the front row in the finals however was shuffled down the order soon after the green light to start the race was given. As the remaining lap count diminished, Jackman moved back up the order into 2nd position on the last lap only to have it taken away from him with a couple of corners to go.

Gary Beel from Wangaratta showed great pace all weekend and rounded out the list of Albury Wodonga Kart Club podium finishers with 3rd place in the Restricted 125 Pro class.
