Albury youngster Jordan Boys, 11, is already a multi-state champion in karting and is showing huge potential.
Try to count up the number of national and international motor racing championships that have come through the ranks via karting and you quickly run out of fingers and toes.
Most, if not all, of the current V8 Supercar Series and Formula One Drivers started their careers in karts and, if Albury youngster Jordan Boys carries on his winning ways, Albury-Wodonga may well produce yet another motor racing champion, of which it has many.
A year 5 student at Lavington Public School, Jordan is just 11-years-old, but already he is a multi-state champion in his class and continually adding to his trophy collection.
“squirrel” to his mates, Jordan comes from a family of karters, with dad Peter, twin brother Cameron and older sister Melinda all experiencing the thrill of collecting karting trophies, while mum Leanne works closely behind the scenes at the Albury-Wodonga Kart Club.
True to his nickname, Jordan has been squirreling away trophies since he started karting four years ago and has racked up some pretty impressive results.
Competing in Midget Class in an Arrow AX9, Jordan’s latest race results speak volumes of the enormous talent this youngster has.
In the last month, he has won the South Australian Open at Whyalla, the Victorian Closed Titles in Ballarat and has been named 2008 Victorian Midget karter of the year, the equivalent of the best and fairest award.
The trophies he collected sit alongside his 2007 NSW Southern Zone title, 2007 City of Melbourne Midget title and City of Wodonga Gold Rush title where he won all five of his races.
Jordan has also won the Junior Sprint title at Puckapunyal two years in a row and could have added a Tasmania title had he not been involved in an incident which saw him finish third after leading the event.
Not to be outdone in the trophy stakes, Cameron has been named Albury-Wodonga Kart Club Midget Champion for 2008.
The Boys twins graduate to a new class in 2009, due to age and size.
Both step up to Rookie Class but will be competing in the same karts, only modified for the quicker pace.
Jordan, the only Albury-Wodonga Kart Club member to wear the Victorian state championship crown since V8 driver Nathan Pretty in the early 1990s, is aiming for another state title in 2009.
Both Jordan and Cameron are headed for other forms of motor racing in the future.
Jordan also plays football, cricket and touch football.
The Boys family attended 25 open meetings plus club days this year and is gearing up for another hectic season, culminating with the Victoria Closed Titles hosted by the Albury-Wodonga Kart Club late next year.
