Thrilling Finish to Kart Titles
Posted on 24 August 2009

Albury Wodonga Kart Club hosted a very successful 2009 City of Wodonga Titles at the Sheathers Road Kart Complex on Sunday. Drivers from Sydney, Melbourne, and various regional clubs across Victoria joined local Albury Wodonga Kart Club members in taking out title honors in their respective classes.

Overnight rain preceding Sunday's race day proved to be treacherous conditions for the pre-race warm up session. Early into the heats the race track was formally declared “dry” and the weather conditions held out for an ideal day of racing action.

In a thrilling finish of the Rookie class, multi-state champion Jordan Boys was edged out of first place on the final lap. Boys representing Albury Wodonga Kart Club led the race up to the last lap and was caught out in a tussle with James Golding on the last lap which promoted fellow Gippsland driver Matthew Smith to first place as the chequered flag dropped.

Macauley Jones dominated the Junior National Heavy class heats and took out title honors in the finals. Melbourne driver and state champion Liam Morey in his maiden debut in the 125cc Junior Max class finished in first place ahead of Jones. Liam Morey's success in the 125cc event was overshadowed by an accident during the pre-start formation laps in the finals of Junior National Light class which prevented him from taking part in the race.

In what has been deemed a very successful event, Albury Wodonga Kart Club's focus is now on preparations for the Victorian State (Closed) Championships to be held at the Sheathers Road Kart Complex in December.
