Rotax Pro Tour, Round 2, Dubbo Raceway 18th, 19th & 20th March 2011
5 Albury/Wodonga Go Kart Racers travelled to Dubbo on the weekend.
Bret Mullavey #54, had a great weekend, after qualifying 16th in a very heavily contested field of 31 Rotax Light drivers, Bret & his dad Kev continued to make changes to his kart which resulted in Bret finishing 4th in the final, a fantastic effort from Bret considering he has been out of Kart racing for well over 12 months.
Also in Rotax Light was Michael Powell #40 his 1st time racing at Dubbo & also his 1st race at the Rotax Pro Tour, Michael struggled with his Kart set up for a good part of the weekend, he qualified 27th, he was happy to have improved on Sunday and finished the final in 15th position.
Danny Wright #22 raced in Rotax Heavy in a field of 23, Danny had more than his fare share of bad luck on Saturday, 1st throwing a chain & then being punted off, Danny qualified 6th, his fortunes changed on Sunday finishing a very respectable 5th in the final.
James Reynolds #14 in DD2 in a field of 24, well I am not sure where to start, things where looking positive on Friday, but everything went pear shaped after that, he had axle drama, then water pump issues, which forced him to the rear of the grid, Qualifying 20th, Sunday morning saw some push & shove which resulted in a DNF & damage, after borrowing some spare parts, he worked his way to finish 18th and then got wheeled in for an engine check, hard luck award for the weekend goes to James.
Jack Richardson #34 JMAX Heavy, also racing at Dubbo for the 1st time, Friday was looking good as Jack was on the pace. Saturday after making every possible change to the kart known to man Jack qualified 6th out of a field of 8, after a good Father to Son chat on Saturday night racing Jack was back. Sunday he started the Pre Final in 6th & finished a strong 4th, he then started the Final in 4th & was looking good for 3rd when his tyres went off, Jack finished 5th by a nose cone on the finish line.
A special mention has to be made on the JMAX Light final a field of 32, Superman Joseph Mawson started the Final on the back row after an earlier altercation in the Pre Final, this was a 22 lap Race that had to be seen to be believed, Joey won this race, a perfect example for every Kart Racer out there, do not overdrive & never give up. It was an absolutely brilliant drive by Joey, Well Done.
The Dubbo track is a great track to race at, so if you get the chance to go there, don't hesitate.
